As you can imagine, life is very difficult for economically impoverished children in Ecuador. It's even harder for those with a disability. Fundacion Campamento Christiano Esperanza ("Camp Hope"), a nonprofit organization started in 1983, cares for children with disabilities and is our host partner in Ecuador.

Camp Hope's mission is to provide love, health services, rehabilitation, schooling and spiritual guidance to children and adolescents with special needs, or of limited economic resources. Camp Hope collaborates with families to help needy children gain independence and eventually integrate into the workforce and society. The majority of families involved with Camp Hope live in poverty and cannot cover all of the costs for the services their children need. A good percentage of the financing provided by groups and volunteers permits Camp Hope to meet children's developmental needs, balancing regular and special education, spiritual help, medical attention, nutrition, rehabilitation and recreation. In doing so, Camp Hope empowers children to overcome life's obstacles and become independent members of society. Your commitment is less than $10 a week, and is fully tax-deductible.
Here's How it Works: Each year, for the cost of just one small take-out pizza per week, or a monthly dinner for two, you can provide the direct support needed to sustain the child(ren) or adolescents assigned to you. The children of Camp Hope have greatly benefited from the infusion of love and caring provided by a steady stream of volunteers through Global Volunteers' service programs. Thanks to the solidarity of our partnership with Camp Hope, many other resources are provided through the work of the volunteers and sponsors. The accomplishments have been many, but the needs are still great and ongoing for many of the children. Global Volunteers' sponsorship program is working to fill the gap... enabling Camp Hope to provide food, clothing, medicine, therapy, wheelchairs, braces and school supplies for the children.
