Community Projects in Jamaica

Paint, Build and Repair Community Buildings: Most labor projects are undertaken to improve school and health-care facilities, bridges, roads and community centers. Because of the climate and frequent severe weather, painting and repair projects are usually central to our assignment.

Healthcare Services: Healthcare professionals have provided blood pressure check-ups, diabetes screenings, eye exams and other preventative healthcare services. You may be able to assist in this area for part of your assignment. Other opportunities include nutrition and hygiene education, modeling hand washing, and demonstrations on school and household gardens.

Psychosocial Support: During summer months, volunteers have also enjoyed engaging local children in arts and crafts or sporting activities to encourage social interaction and development.
