Global Volunteers works in partnership with two non-profit broad-based child care and development organizations in Ecuador. Our host in Quito, Fundación Campamento Cristiano Esperanza, ("Camp Hope" ) provides health care and rehabilitative services to economically poor children with disabilities, some of whom are orphaned or have been abandoned.
Our host in Calderon, a small community on the outskirts of Quito, is Fundación de Damas Calderonenses (the Ladies of Calderon Foundation or FUNDAC). FUNDAC was started by a group of local women who needed child care for their children while they were at work. Given their extraordinarily difficult economic conditions, commercial child care wasn't possible, so they cooperatively started their own day care facility using volunteers to care for the kids.
